The Department of Chemistry Mentorship Coffee Breaks Program was developed in response to the need identified by our graduate students for informal professional development and mentorship opportunities. This also provides our very busy alumni the flexibility to meet with you at their convenience. The program is designed to foster career development and introduces current graduate students to departmental alumni now working in professional capacities.
What is a Coffee Break?
It’s an opportunity for a small group of graduate students (up to five) to meet with Chemistry alumni for an informal mentoring session. Held either at a coffee shop or restaurant near campus, or virtually, students will have a chance to ask alumni questions about:
- Transitioning from academia to industry
- Exploring non-traditional career paths
- Job search strategies and networking tips
- Corporate culture & expectations
- How their grad experience shaped their career choices
- And more
Sign up for a Mentorship Coffee Break
We will send out invitations for Coffee Breaks as they are scheduled and will take registrations on a first-come, first-served basis.
Please check your schedule before you sign up and be considerate to your fellow students and to our alumni volunteers. Last minute cancellations and no-shows are not acceptable as they reflect poorly on you and on our chemistry community.
