What is a Second-Year Learning Community?

During 2021-22, the Department of Chemistry is again piloting a Second-Year Learning Community (SLC), which is modelled on the Faculty of Arts & Science First-Year Learning Communities. Our goal with this program is to connect students to the field of chemistry and build a community of second-year Chemistry program students at U of T. You will meet with chemistry alumni, graduate students, faculty and people in the workplace: in doing this you will learn about the multiple and changing career pathways related to our discipline and relevant opportunities available to you.

The Chemistry SLC will be held virtually: every other week on Fridays from 1:00 - 2:30 p.m., beginning in the first full week of classes. If your application is successful, SLC participants are responsible for keeping this SLC timeslot available. Successful applicants will be enrolled in SLC by the Department of Chemistry.

Applications are open to everyone. We strongly encourage students who identify as persons with disabilities, LGBTQ+, women, Indigenous and/or people of colour to apply.

The deadline for applications is Monday 9th August at 9:00 a.m. EST. Please make the most of this exciting opportunity and apply as soon as you can
