The Chemistry Minor is an open-enrollment program: students who have completed 4.0 credits may enroll in it. The Minor affords students the chance to experience the different sub-disciplines in chemistry without the more significant commitment of enrolling in a Specialist or Major program.
The important Minor program objectives are as follows:
- to provide a program with an emphasis on learning foundational concepts in university chemistry, primarily at the first- and second-year level.
- to give second-year students opportunities for hands-on learning and development of written communication skills through laboratory work in either analytical, inorganic or organic chemistry.
- to provide students with the capacity to study upper-year chemistry through two courses at the third-year level in an area or areas of their choice (organic, inorganic, physical, biological, environmental, or analytical).
The Chemistry Minor will be a program of interest to students who have successfully completed first-year chemistry courses ((CHM 135H and CHM 136H)/CHM 151Y) and are planning to enroll in a Specialist or Major program that is housed in another academic unit.
