Resources

The University of Toronto maintains several services and programs to support students, faculty, staff and visitors to our campuses in remaining safe and preventing emergencies and other incidents.

TravelSafer Service

TravelSafer is a free service offered by the University of Toronto Campus Safety that is available 24/7 365 days a year. A Building Patroller or Special Constable will escort you to and from any location on campus and abutting TTC stations for added peace of mind.

Work Alone Service

The Work Alone program is designed to create a safer environment for U of T students, staff and faculty who are working alone in isolated areas on the campus and for individuals with ongoing personal safety concerns.

    Emergency Call 911 Police/Fire/Medical

Call 911 from an internal telephone line for immediate police, fire or medical response to preserve life or property. Report urgent matters (suspicious persons/trespassers) to U of T Safety at 978-2222. To contact U of T Safety on any other matter, please call 978-2323 or visit the U of T Campus Safety website.

    Emergency Telephones

On campus a blue flashing light indicates the location of an emergency telephone. When the button is pressed, it dials directly into the University Safety dispatcher and the caller's location is displayed to the operator. There are several emergency telephone locations on campus. The nearest location to the Lash Miller Building is Huron Street near the Sidney Smith Building. There is also an emergency telephone located in the Lash Miller underground parking garage.

    U of T  Emergency Preparedness

The University’s top priority in responding to crisis or emergency situations is the safety of students, faculty, librarians, staff, and affected community members.

    Training Resources

Workplace Hazard Information System (WHMIS) & Lab Safety / Environmental Health & Safety (EHS)

The mission of these UofT Departments is to ensure that an environmentally responsible, safe and healthy work, research and study environment exists at the University of Toronto.

This is achieved by being proactive in identifying risks and emerging issues and by developing and implementing innovative, practical and sustainable processes to manage them, including training and awareness, teaching, provision of expert advice, emergency response and assurance.

Visit the WHMIS site to learn more about EHS safety training and university-wide standards for lab and workplace safety or to reach out to their Health and Safety Contacts.
